The Boy Who Skated with Dragons

By on October 21, 2014

Jim Bates. He’s a skater who has not only battled depression, but has dealt with it by writing a children’s book entitled The Boy Who Skated with Dragons. For those who don’t know who Jim Bates is, he was one of the most prolific skaters of the early 2000s. He’s had countless video parts, magazine spreads and interviews and all the while battled his own demons. He disappeared for many years, and a lot of us wondered what happened to the skater from Newbury Park, CA. Wonder no more. Jim’s Facebook popped to life earlier today, as he writes, “I recently had the opportunity to do an interview for Vice where I talked about skateboarding, positive changes that I have made, struggles in my life and overcoming them, my book and my past career in skateboarding. It is now published and I’m happy with the way it turned out. I hope that it can be inspiration to help others overcome struggles in life and do great things with their talents and passion. There is hope if we don’t give up and keep trying.” Well said, Jim. Check out the story on Jim Bates right here and if you want to purchase his children’s book, click here. Our hats are off to Jim Bates. Radical Jim Bates. The future’s looking brighter than the pages in his new book.
