Hurricane Marie Slams Catalina Island

It’s not often you hear about Catalina Island getting slammed by big surf, let alone any surf at all. But on Wednesday huge storm surf pounded the shores, turning normally tranquil harbors into a swirling mess of debris, boats and wreckage. It’s the first time in nearly 30 years that surf has pounded and destroyed property on Catalina Island, and with the way El Nino is shaping up this late into summer, it might not be the last.
