Monster Typhoon Headed Toward Japan

Not since Super Typhoon Haiyan slammed into the Philippines last November killing 6,000 has a storm this strong rung up the Western Pacific. Meet Super Typhoon Vongfong, a category 5 with sustained winds up to 150mph. It’s been building since Monday and is expected to make landfall somewhere in the Orient by this weekend. Although we’re not sure it’s going to hit Japan at this point, there’s a solid chance they’ll get some radical winds and gigantic surf. In terms of surf for the rest of the Pacific from Vongfong, west facing beaches in Hawaii could see a solid west swell, and for those on the west coast of America, it’s just too early too tell what will happen. But keep your eyes on Vongfong. It’s nasty and it’s pissed off.
