Top Seeds Blaze to Quarters in Hurley Pro at Trestles

By on September 17, 2014

Anyone who wanted to see the world’s best surfers make it into the main rounds of the 2014 ASP Hurley Pro at Trestles will not be disappointed with what’s transpired the last few days. First of all, you’d have to be living under a rock to have not heard about the performance battle going on between John John Florence and Gabriel Medina. Throw in the big time rail game of surfers like Jordy Smith, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson and Ace Buchan and you’ve got all the makings of another epic down to the wire surfing event. Seems like Lowers never disappoints and it sure hasn’t this year. The best surfers are making heats, and the best surfer will win.

Here’s what were looking at for tomorrow’s quarterfinals.

QTR #1 will see Mick Fanning up against Jordy Smith. Both surfers have been on fire lately but Jordy’s been having some equipment issues, so we’re predicting Mick Fanning will take this one earning a spot into the semis.

QTR #2 will see Gabriel Medina up against Ace Buchan. Since it seems like the current world #1 Medina can’t make any mistakes, we’re givng him the nod in this heat.

QTR #3 will see John John Florence take on Adriano DeSouza. Sure Adriano’s got those frontside hacks down, but JJF appears to be on a slightly higher level. We’re going with John John in this heat.

QTR #4
In the last heat of the quarters we’ll see Joel Parkinson take on 11X world champ Kelly Slater. Everyone knows Slater doesn’t really turn things up until he gets into the quarters, so it’s King Kelly all the way in this heat.

What the Semis could look like
Semifinal #1: Mick Fanning vs. Gabriel Medina
Semifinal #2: John John Florence vs. Kelly Slater

What the finals could look like:
Gabriel Media vs. Kelly Slater
Who might win: Kelly Slater (who woulda thunk?)
